The FINGER Trial is not about your fingers. It is about your brain.

The ground-breaking FINGER (Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability) is a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial with more than 2600 patients.

It demonstrated that an intervention ameliorating modifiable lifestyle factors (diet, exercise, cognitive training, vascular risk monitoring, and social stimulation) can reduce risk or delay symptoms of cognitive decline in various specific cognitive domains in people at risk of dementia.

Interestingly, this trial's placebo group received the standard of care. The placebo group met with the study nurse at baseline, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months and received a full body examination, blood work, and oral and written consultation on all five aspects of the intervention (nutrition, exercise, social life, metabolic risk factors, etc.).

However, the placebo group did not receive the intervention with the therapists. The cognitive performance in the placebo group was significantly weaker in overall cognition, memory, and speed processing after 24 months of intervention. The experts concluded that a multidomain intervention can reduce risk or delay symptoms of cognitive decline in people at risk of dementia.

How exciting! Now we know people can prevent dementia by working with a cognitive trainer, physiotherapist, nutritionist, and nurse practitioner, but who can afford that?

The good news is Mindr replicates the FINGER Trial in a digital app and is available for a subscription now, and the best part personal Mindr Health and Wellness coaches will support you on your journey!
